Mettlestate is running two free fighting game brackets on Saturday 8 August, and the prize listed for each one is a trip to France to compete at Evo. Entry costs nothing, both brackets are online, and registrations close on 7 August.
Fight Night is online, open to players in South Africa, and there is no entry fee. Both brackets run on the same day. Check-in opens at 09:00 and the bracket starts at 10:00. The countdown on both event pages points to registrations closing on 7 August, the day before you play.
Evo France 2026 runs from 9 to 11 October at Parvis de l’Europe in Nice. Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 are both on the main lineup there, alongside Guilty Gear Strive, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, 2XKO and Marvel Tokon.

What you are actually entering
Fight Night Tekken. One versus one, best of three, first to win two of three sets, played in VERSUS mode. Slots are uncapped.
Fight Night Street Fighter 6. One versus one, best of three, first to win two battles, run as a double elimination bracket. Slots are uncapped here too.
Both brackets are cross platform across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, so whatever is already in your lounge counts. You need a free Mettlestate account, and the rules require your account country to match where you actually live, so this is a genuinely South African field rather than an open international one.
Why this is worth your Saturday
Almost nothing on the South African calendar puts an international trip in front of a fighting game player, and when something does it usually comes with an entry fee, a venue, travel to get there and a full weekend gone. This one asks for a free account, a game you already own and one morning at home.
Double elimination also means a bad first match does not end your day. You get a second route through the bracket, which matters if you have not competed in a while and need a round to shake the nerves off.
The honest catch is that the strongest players in the country will be looking at the same two links. That is the point of a bracket. But you cannot draw into it from the couch, and the only thing entry costs you is the time it takes to sign up.
Before you count on the trip
One thing to sort out before you build your hopes around it. Mettlestate lists the prize simply as a trip to France to compete at Evo. The event rules do not spell out what that trip covers. The general prize rules do say that a prize cannot be exchanged for cash or anything else, and that where a third party provides the prize, Mettlestate is not responsible for defects or incorrect information.
South Africans need a Schengen visa to enter France. That means an application, supporting documents, an appointment and fees, and a winner crowned on 8 August has roughly two months to get it done before Evo opens on 9 October. It is doable. It is not automatic, and it is not free.
So ask first. Email info@mettlestate.com and get it in writing: does the trip cover flights, accommodation and Evo entry, and is there any support with the visa. Enter either way, because entering costs you nothing. Just go in knowing exactly what you are chasing. We will update this piece if Mettlestate publishes the terms.
How to enter
Create a free Mettlestate account, set your country to South Africa, and add the game ID for the platform you play on. Open the event page for your game and hit Join Event. Then be back on the site at 09:00 on 8 August to check in, because missing check-in means missing the bracket no matter how well you would have played.
Matches are arranged inside the bracket itself, so watch the Matches tab on the day and report your scores as you go.
Get your name in the bracket
Registrations close on 7 August. Two links, no entry fee, and the only thing standing between somebody in this country and a bracket in Nice is whether they bothered to sign up.
